Some San Diego Residents Eligible for Water Rebates
San Diego residents in some unincorporated areas are eligible for increased water-use efficiency rebates. The program, announced in partnership between the Watershed Protection Program and San Diego County Water Authority, could save money for residential, commercial and agricultural customers who make landscape upgrades designed to improve the region’s climate resilience and reduce the flow of pollutants into waterways. The incentives include rebates that start at $3 per square foot for turf replacement, $60 per smart controller station, $65 per rain barrel and up to $450 per cistern. The agencies are also offering help to upgrade bigger landscapes from commercial to multifamily properties. In addition, the county is offering rebates for upgrades including rain gardens, gutters, permeable pavement and regular septic system pumping.
These rebates are the continued effort to help reduce the drought in California as we seen it worsen every day. The Colorado River, California’s biggest water supply, also continues to see a decline and experts say we will see it continue into 2022. As this is an effort to decrease the drought, they are starting with the unincorporated areas as they have the biggest land.
